Kickboxing in Leipzig: Ad Victoriam Review Summary
The Ad Victoriam Gym is a small martial arts studio in Leipzig. Interestingly, a group of friends created it to exchange knowledge and learn from each other’s experiences in diverse martial arts.
Slowly, thanks to their sons, the gym grew in popularity and now has more than 30 students training there every week.
If I could define this gym in one word, it would be passion. The teachers love what they do and do it for no other reason than to share their deep knowledge and love for the fighting arts with others.
Their martial arts class offer is diverse, but I would say they’re mostly a kickboxing gym. But that’s because most of the students seem to like kickboxing more than the other classes.
What’s Great About Ad Victoriam Martial Arts Gym
I’ve never been a fan of training at huge gyms. The more students a kickboxing or MMA gym has, the less attention they give to students individually. That is not the case with Ad Victoriam Gym.
Class size is just perfect
The classes are large enough for you to find a great training partner but small enough that the instructors will adjust your technique while you train. The place never felt crowded and uncomfortable.
I got a great insight about my roundhouse kick from Thilo, one of the leading instructors. I don’t think I would have such detailed feedback in a larger class.
They have weights and other gear for conditioning
When training kickboxing, BJJ, or MMA, it is necessary to do some conditioning on the side if you want to thrive. I enjoy calisthenics and some weight lifting, so it was essential for me to find a kickboxing gym in Leipzig that had weights.
Ad Victoriam offers what you need to get the job done after training with a wide offer of weights, kettlebells, and resistance bands.
Now, I wished they had more machines, like a squat rack and a bench, but I was training there for a month and never felt I missed it.
However, it might not be ideal long-term if you’re serious about your lifting goals to supplement kickboxing or grappling training.
The people are fantastic!
As an MMA junkie traveling the world for almost a year, I’ve been amazed by how incredible everyone is within the MMA community in all the MMA gyms I’ve seen so far. However, the Ad Victoriam Gym in Leipzig is probably one of the friendliest environments to train ever.
I do speak German, but I’m far from fluent. They were super cool about it and always spoke German to me, and were eager to make me feel at home even knowing that I was there short term.
They created a great environment to facilitate martial arts learning. The classes had a good mix of beginners, intermediate, and advanced practitioners. Everybody was friendly and pleasant to train with.
What’s Not So Great About Ad Victoriam Kickboxing Gym Leipzig
Like everything in life, this gym isn’t perfect. In my experience, these were the downsides I found training there.
Location might not be the best for everyone
This is tricky because I was staying close to the gym, about 10 minutes walking distance. So location for me worked great, and it was a deciding factor to train there.
However, the location isn’t that great if you’re staying near Leipzig’s city center. But this kickboxing gym is located no more than 20-30 minutes by “Straßenbahn” (Tram) from the city center, so it shouldn’t be an issue to get there.
The Class schedule is not ideal for morning training
I’m used to training early in the mornings. It was a bit of a deal-breaker for me that I couldn’t train like that in Leipzig.
Because the trainers also have full-time jobs, the Ad Victoriam Gym in Leipzig offers no morning classes. Also, I had very little time after training to get my conditioning done. They usually would close 30 minutes after the main class ends.
They were always kind to wait for me to finish my lifting sessions, but I always felt in a rush to get my sets done.
No Grappling classes
For me, in the modern world of martial arts, it is weird to train at a gym where I can’t wrestle or roll with people a few times per week.
Unfortunately, they don’t offer grappling classes as you would find in MMA gyms.
I believe they will have it at some point, but the gym is all about kickboxing right now. The gym offers some Japanese Jiu-Jitsu, but they don’t roll or “sparr” grappling techniques at the end of the class, and it is mostly about self-defense.

During my time training there, I attempted Kickboxing and Japanese Jiu-Jitsu classes. I couldn’t join them in their sparring days, and I saw no Ko-Budo/Bo-Jutsu classes.
Also, I don’t think they offer yoga anymore. However, bear in mind that I trained after the Covid-19 emergency, and they were slowly getting back to their normal activities.

How’s The Training
The training is hard enough to keep you in great shape but not hard enough that you feel destroyed after. Undoubtedly perfect for anyone interested in training martial arts as a hobby.
You can take a kickboxing class and carry on with your life without a problem. It might not be the best environment if you’re looking for high-performance training focused on competition. But this is not because the teachers are not capable of training you for pro fights.
Most of the people there are training for fun and health and not to jump in a ring to make money fighting.
Who would find the Ad Victoriam Gym ideal?
If you’re looking for solid kickboxing lessons with world-class trainers, a friendly environment, and reasonable prices, look no further. Go for a free class and enroll at Ad Victoriam Kickboxing in Leipzig. You won’t regret it.
On the other hand, if you want a Mixed Martial Arts gym where you can strike and grapple, they might not be the best option for you. Also, if you need morning classes, this gym isn’t for you.
Instructors
Thilo and Dennis are the senior instructors. They are very professional and kind, I had lots of fun training with them, and they gave me tips that made me a better martial artist in the short time I trained there.
Paul, Phillip, and Tim were also very friendly and professional.
Final Thoughts About Ad Victoriam Gym – Kickboxing in Leipzig
All in all, the Ad Victoriam Gym in Leipzig is a great place to train and grow as a martial artist. I was impressed by their professionalism and passion for martial arts. I would train with them again if I’m in Leipzig visiting friends or family.
However, if you are looking for grappling and morning classes in Leipzig, they’re not the best match for you.
